Ravens RB Derrick Henry Wants To Take Pressure Off Quarterback Lamar Jackson

The Baltimore Ravens committed to running back Derrick Henry. After one of his most dominant seasons last year, Henry helped Baltimore become one of the most potent offenses the league has ever seen. He finished the season with 1,921 rushing yards, 16 touchdowns, and three fumbles in 17 regular-season games.

The two-year contract extension through the 2027 season is worth $30 million total, with $25 million guaranteed. It is the richest deal for a running back over 30 years old. The contract amount ranks third among running backs, with only Christian McCaffrey ($19 million) and Saquon Barkley ($20.6 million) ahead.

Henry’s work ethic has been praised by the Baltimore Ravens organization all season. General Manager Eric DeCosta praised Henry early in the year for his professionalism.

“Derrick is just a phenomenal worker, he’s a pro,” DeCosta told the media. “He does everything the right way—the way that he practices, the way that he takes care of his body, his mentality on the field, his leadership, his talent—he’s freakishly talented—his combination of size and speed.

“He was just a perfect player for us last year. [He was] the right addition, and he brought a lot to the table on the field and also off the field with intangible qualities. We’re blessed to have him, and I would expect his success last year to continue this year.”

Derrick Henry and quarterback Lamar Jackson’s triple-option attack was nearly unstoppable, and their hopes to win their first Super Bowl are motivating them going into next season. With a lot to prove, and the duo entering their second season together, they are approaching the year with a championship-or-bust mindset.
