GOP Breaks Rank, Tanks Trump’s Budget Bill Over Medicaid Beef

Donald Trump’s so-called “big, beautiful” budget bill took a major hit on Friday—and not from Democrats this time. In a surprising twist, five Republicans crossed the aisle and joined Democrats to block the legislation, throwing a wrench into one of Trump’s key domestic priorities.

The bill, which was meant to extend Trump-era tax cuts and introduce a new no-tax-on-tips policy, ran into serious trouble when conservative Republicans demanded even more spending cuts. Specifically, they want deeper slashes to Medicaid, the health program for low-income Americans, and a full repeal of green energy tax breaks championed by Democrats.
