Joe Biden, America’s 46th president, is now facing a new kind of battle—one with his health. According to a statement from his personal office released Sunday, Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that’s already spread to his bones.
The diagnosis came after Biden began experiencing worsening urinary symptoms. Doctors found a suspicious nodule during a checkup last week. By Friday, test results confirmed prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 9, one of the most serious forms, and it’s already metastasized to the bone.
While the diagnosis is concerning, Biden’s medical team says the cancer is hormone-sensitive. That means it can be treated with therapies that slow its growth by cutting off hormones the cancer feeds on.
Now 82, Biden just wrapped up his term in the White House and was settling into post-presidency life. This diagnosis shifts everything. He and his family are reportedly working closely with doctors to figure out the best treatment plan moving forward.
Wishing strength and healing to the former commander-in-chief.
