Diddy wants Dawn Richard’s lawsuit thrown out, and he made his move the same day she testified against him in his federal sex trafficking trial.
In a legal filing submitted Friday, Diddy’s attorneys labeled the former Danity Kane singer’s claims “totally false,” accusing her of trying to “transform narratives of alleged injuries against others into a headline-grabbing sex trafficking conspiracy as to her.” The motion argues the suit should be dismissed based on the statute of limitations and improper group pleading.
That same day, Richard testified in court, detailing a disturbing 2009 incident where she says she witnessed Diddy attack singer Cassie.
“He went to hit her with a glass bottle. She dodged it. Then he tried to hit her with a large crystal candleholder,” Richard said.
She recalled Diddy dragging Cassie upstairs and later locking Richard and another bandmate in a studio, warning them not to talk and offering them flowers afterward, gestures she took as intimidation. Richard originally filed her lawsuit in September, accusing Diddy of groping, terrorizing, and belittling her during their time on “Making the Band.”
At the time, Diddy’s legal team stated, “Dawn Richard has now manufactured a series of false claims all in the hopes of trying to get a pay day,” adding she later signed another contract with Diddy, which they argue undermines her credibility.
Richard is expected to take the stand again on Monday as the trial enters its second week.
