If you were one of the thousands vibing with Shakira at MetLife Stadium on May 15th, New Jersey health officials have a heads-up for you: someone in that crowd brought along measles to the party.
According to the NJ Department of Health, a person who traveled from outside the state and attended the sold-out show has since tested positive for the virus. That means anyone who was at the venue that night could be at risk of exposure.
Symptoms to watch for include a high fever, cough, red eyes, a runny nose, and a rash. If any of that pops up, health officials are urging fans to call their doctor, not show up at the ER, so the virus doesn’t spread further.
The good news is there’s no ongoing measles outbreak in New Jersey right now. Officials say this is only the third confirmed case this year, all linked to one household. Still, they’re not taking chances.
There are over 1,000 cases of measles across the country as the outbreak continues to grow. The number of cases in Texas alone has soared over 700. There have been at least three fatalities in the country.
