Donald Trump has a new demand for Apple—and it could hit your bank account hard. In a recent social media post, Trump called out Apple CEO Tim Cook, saying iPhones sold in the U.S. must be manufactured on American soil. If not, Apple could face a 25% tariff on every iPhone made abroad.

That’s not just talk. Economic experts are warning this could send iPhone prices soaring. Right now, iPhones are mostly made in China and India, where labor and manufacturing costs are low. Producing one in the U.S. could cost Apple three to five times more, which means customers could see prices as high as $3,500 for a single device.

Why the spike? Labor in the U.S. is more expensive, and Apple’s supply chain is heavily dependent on Asia. Bringing everything stateside would mean building new factories, hiring and training workers, and dealing with delays that could stretch on for years.

For now, Apple hasn’t responded publicly, but the pressure is real.

So if you were already thinking twice about upgrading your iPhone, you might want to start saving now. Because if this plan moves forward, that next-gen device could come with a next-level price tag
