Three more inmates who busted out of a New Orleans jail earlier this month have been caught, while the hunt intensifies for the two who are still out there.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill confirmed the captures Monday, following the May 16th breakout that stunned the city.
Lenton Vanburen was arrested in Baton Rouge. In a separate sweep, Leo Tate and Jermaine Donald were picked up by Texas authorities in Walker County. According to Murrill, “Vanburen was originally serving time for a parole violation, possession of a firearm by a felon and illegal carrying of a weapon.” She also noted that Tate “was originally incarcerated on charges of burglary, possession of a firearm by a felon and illegal carrying of a weapon,” and has a record including attempted second-degree murder. Donald faced “second-degree murder, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a felon.”
The trio now faces fresh charges tied to their escape.
Security footage shows inmates forcing a cell door open at 12:22 a.m., then slipping through a hole behind a toilet. They exited via a loading dock around 1 a.m., but no one noticed until hours later—at 8:30 a.m. And shockingly, no deputy had been posted in the area.
So far, nine people have been arrested in connection to the escape, including a maintenance worker who allegedly helped create the escape route by shutting off water and removing the toilet.
Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves are still on the run.
