Akon’s Wife Sues Publix After Getting Groped in Store—Says They Covered Up Other Incidents

One of Akon’s wives, Amirah Iman-Thiam, is heading to court in 2025 and this time, it’s not about music. The singer-songwriter is suing Publix Supermarket after claiming she was sexually assaulted by an employee while shopping in Roswell, Georgia, back in 2022.

According to court documents, a store clerk named Jonathan Ross allegedly stalked Amirah through the aisles before groping her from behind at checkout. Bodycam footage later captured her visibly shaken, barely able to speak. Ross was arrested on the spot and later pled guilty to sexual battery.

But the story doesn’t stop there. The trauma forced Amirah to cancel a 12-city European tour, costing her nearly $300,000. Additional collaborations with Grammy-winning producers were also scrapped. She’s since leaned heavily on therapy, spiritual healing in Senegal, and now relies on personal security just to leave the house.

Publix dismissed the lawsuit, claiming Ross acted on his own. However, Amirah’s legal team argues the grocery chain failed to protect customers, pointing to 19 similar complaints against male employees at other locations. They say the company prioritized profits over safety, calling stores like Publix a breeding ground for unchecked predators.

“This isn’t about one man. It’s a dangerous pattern,” her attorney stated. Records show Publix quietly reserved $4.2 million to settle similar “customer incidents” post-Ross’s conviction.

As Amirah prepares for her day in court, she’s making one thing clear: this fight is bigger than her. It’s about protecting women everywhere from being violated where they least expect it.
