Every time this happens there’s always that person that says “It’s no big deal”, “Black people say the N Word” and “Black people are being too sensitive”. Well before I start allow me to say this, I don’t know about how YOU run YOUR life, but disrespect is never okay where I’m from and if someone will drop the N-bomb while he’s drunk, he is only speaking his sober mind’s thoughts. If someone degrades you in private, they could care less about you in public either. Have we gotten so preconditioned to being treated like lap dogs that we have to sit back and ALLOW ourselves to be second class citizens? We’re talking about someone who plays with a team that is majority BLACK! Does he not respect his team mates enough?
Anyway, now that I got that out of the way, here’s the story. Miami Dolphin Offensive Tackle Jonathan Martin claims that his team mate, Richie Incognito sent him threatening and racially charged voicemails and text messages. He even went as far as to call Martin a “half-n***** piece of sh**” as well as threaten to have members of Martin’s family tracked down and harmed. You can say what you want to ME but when you bring up my FAMILY, that’s another story.
Martin claims that he has been the victim of bullying since his 2012 rookie year. We’re all familiar with Rookie hazing but threats definitely go beyond that. Jonathan Martin’s last straw was last Monday when his team mates invited him to sit with them at the cafeteria then when he sat, they all left. Completely over it, Martin slammed his tray and left the facilities never to return. We learn that he is on an indefinite leave of absence after being placed on the non-football injury list. I thought this only happened on pre-teen Disney movies.
Although Incognito has demanded apologies from the media, saying they are falsely accusing him the NFL is taking his threats seriously. He has been suspended indefinitely for his actions. It’s kind of hard to maintain your innocence when you’re caught on voicemail saying “Hey, wassup, you half (expletive) piece of (expletive). “I saw you on Twitter, you been training 10 weeks. I’ll (expletive) in your (expletive) mouth. I’m gonna slap your (expletive) mouth, I’m gonna slap your real mother across the face (laughter). (Expletive) you, you’re still a rookie. I’ll kill you.” Incognito’s history of bullying dates back even further than the NFL. He has been documented as being an aggressive bully during his 2002 freshman year in college. TMZ even has footage of him dropping the N-bomb in a drunken tirade. Some folks never grow up.
The Dolphins have since issued a statement via their website:
“We believe in maintaining a culture of respect for one another and as a result we believe this decision is in the best interest of the organization at this time.”
