R. Kelly Demands Removal of Chicago Prosecutors from His Case, Citing Corruption and Conspiracy

R. Kelly is once again challenging the legal system, asking a federal judge to remove the entire U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago from his case, claiming misconduct and conflicts of interest have ruined his chances at a fair trial.

According to AllHipHop, His lawyer, Beau Brindley, filed a motion accusing a former prosecutor of “serious malfeasance,” suggesting others in the office may also be compromised. “While it is theoretically conceivable that one single AUSA went rogue… that possibility is both remote and in need of full and impartial investigation,” Brindley stated.

Brindley argues that everyone involved in Kelly’s prosecution has a personal stake in the case, making it impossible for the office to fairly investigate itself. “Every single AUSA who worked on the investigation or prosecution of this case has a personal interest,” he wrote.

He’s calling for prosecutors from another district or from the Department of Justice in D.C. to step in.

The motion also identifies Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Julian, not for wrongdoing, but because he led the trial and may now be a witness. Judge April Perry is referenced, too, though she previously recused herself due to her past with the same office.

Kelly’s legal team continues to allege a broad conspiracy, including stolen legal mail, coerced testimony, a foiled murder plot by an Aryan Brotherhood member, and withheld medical care. Brindley insists, “This is not an R. Kelly production. This is what they are doing to him as these words are being written.”

The court has not yet ruled on the motion.
