Joycelyn Savage is finally speaking for herself after years of headlines and speculation.

In a video shared Sunday night, she directly addressed accusations made by her family and insisted that her relationship with R. Kelly is both genuine and voluntary.
“I am not a victim,” she said, looking into the camera with confidence. Savage explained that she’s been involved with the singer for a decade, and even while he’s been in federal custody for the past six years, she has remained in close contact with him, visiting every weekend without fail.
According to Savage, the two are planning for the future. She revealed that she proposed to Kelly three years ago and that he accepted.
“We are planning on getting married and having a family,” she said. “I am very excited about that.”
The video also served as a rebuttal to her parents, Timothy and Jonjelyn Savage, who have publicly accused Kelly of brainwashing and manipulating their daughter.
Savage called those claims false and urged viewers not to buy into what she described as a fabricated narrative.
“Please do not believe the lies that my mother and father are coming out here saying about me and Robert,” she said. “I am not held against my will. I am not a sex slave. I am not brainwashed or any of those crazy lies that were told about me.”
She confirmed that she has full access to a phone and the freedom to contact her family, but she simply chooses not to. Toward the end of the message, she asked for prayers and urged the public to support what she sees as a miscarriage of justice.
“I just want Robert to get the righteous justice that he deserves,” she said. “Because he deserves to be free. Enough is enough. I’m tired, and he’s tired as well.”
Despite her public statement, her family remains firm in their belief that she is under R. Kelly’s influence. Their attorney, Gerald Griggs, reiterated last week that the family still views her as someone who is not acting of her own free will.
Savage’s statement is the most direct defense of R. Kelly she has made in years and adds another layer to a case that continues to divide public opinion.
