Gunna Reflects on His Career After YSL RICO Case: “My Fans Really Came Through for Me”

Gunna sat down with will.i.am for a conversation for Uproxx that felt more like a fresh start than a typical interview, offering honest answers that showed he’s focused on moving forward, not on the drama.

He didn’t dodge the tough topics, speaking directly about how he navigated everything from jail time to the noise surrounding his name.

When asked how it felt stepping back on stage after being locked up, Gunna didn’t hesitate.

“It’s one of the best feelings in the world, that I’ll never forget,” he said. “I never take it for granted. I can just go back to that time and be like, ‘Man, my fans really came through for me.’”

That moment wasn’t just about performing again. It marked a shift. A sign he was entering a new chapter.

“It was about me, but it was really about them showing up for me. I got die-hard fans, for sure,” he added.

Since accepting a plea deal in the YSL RICO case back in 2022, Gunna has been the target of nonstop rumors, mostly revolving around the accusation that he snitched. His former attorney, Steve Sadow, shut that down, clarifying that Gunna didn’t testify against anyone or help the prosecution build a case.

Rather than defend himself on record, Gunna has chosen to stay focused, releasing music and speaking directly to the fans who matter.

“First, thank you for being with me,” he told them. “And never give up. Don’t stop, especially when they want you to stop. Really keep going then. That’s when you really, really push. Pray until something happens.”

He acknowledged that pressure and setbacks are inevitable, but pushing through made him stronger.

“A lot of things will pull you down or get in your way… when you get over the hump, you feel stronger,” Gunna advised.

This version of Gunna isn’t concerned with clearing up rumors or appeasing critics. He’s focused on showing love to those who never switched up and continuing to bet on himself.
