Trump Praises Liberian President’s English

During a lunch at the White House with leaders from several African nations, Donald Trump found himself at the center of another viral moment—and not in a good way. As he hosted presidents from Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, Senegal, and Liberia, Trump appeared genuinely impressed with Liberian President Joseph Boakai’s command of the English language.

He leaned in and said, “Such good English. Beautiful English. Where did you learn to speak so beautifully?”

What Trump seemingly didn’t realize is that English has been Liberia’s official language since the country’s founding in the 1800s. The West African nation was established by formerly enslaved African Americans, and its government structure and language closely mirror that of the U.S.

Once footage of the moment hit social media, it didn’t take long for the trolling to begin. Users flooded timelines with comments highlighting the irony, calling it yet another example of Trump’s infamous international slip-ups.
For many, the incident is an embarrassment for the USA.
