NBCUniversal Says Diddy’s Reputation Was Already Damaged Before $100M “Lucifer” Lawsuit

NBC says Diddy's image was already damaged by his conviction and multiple lawsuits before their documentary aired

NBCUniversal is firing back at Diddy’s defamation suit, urging a judge to dismiss the $100 million claim tied to the documentary “Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy.” The media company insists the film is protected under free speech and reflects topics already widely reported.

The documentary, which premiered on Peacock in January 2025, highlights Diddy’s career, upbringing, and legal issues. In court documents obtained by AllHipHop, Diddy claims the project falsely painted him as a “violent predator” and “criminal mastermind,” accusing it of pushing wild conspiracies and comparing him to “Lucifer” and Jeffrey Epstein.

NBC, along with Peacock and Ample Entertainment, argues that the documentary did not add any new damage to Diddy’s reputation. Their legal filing points out that Diddy’s image had already taken major hits from “hundreds of civil lawsuits” and his July 2025 conviction involving prostitution charges.

They also note that the film touches on the deaths of Kimberly Porter, Biggie Smalls, and Heavy D. NBC says it never accused Diddy of wrongdoing in those cases, instead stating the film merely “explored public speculation” already reported in mainstream media. The quotes came from interviewees, not the network itself.

This legal stance aligns with attorney Ariel Mitchell’s recent comments on Newsmax. Representing a client who claims to have videos of Diddy with minors, Mitchell said his “reputation had already been irreparably damaged.”

Diddy remains in jail awaiting sentencing on October 3rd. NBC argues the court should reject his case altogether.
