Elon Musk and Vine

Elon Musk has confirmed that Vine will return, but this time with artificial intelligence powering the platform.

The announcement follows a public poll he posted back in 2022, asking users whether they wanted the short-form video app to make a comeback. The poll received over a million responses, showing clear interest in its return.

On Thursday, Musk stated, “We’re bringing back Vine, but in AI form,” signaling that development on the new version is officially underway. No additional information has been shared about how AI will be integrated or what features users can expect.

Vine was first introduced in 2012 and was purchased by Twitter that same year. It became a cultural staple for its six-second looping videos and played a major role in launching the careers of many online creators.

Despite its influence, Vine was shut down in 2016 after facing internal issues and a failure to scale.

Musk’s decision to bring it back with AI suggests a significantly different approach this time, possibly including automated tools for content creation, moderation, or personalized video feeds.

Vine’s legacy continues to influence social media platforms even years after its closure.

Whether its upcoming AI-based version will succeed in reviving that influence, or, redefine it entirely remains unclear.

No launch date has been announced.
