LeBron James is drawing a clear line in the digital sand. The NBA icon has launched legal action against Interlink AI, the company behind a bizarre wave of AI-generated deepfake videos that featured him in surreal and fabricated situations—including a clip showing him pregnant and another placing him inside a prison cell alongside Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Once the manipulated content hit social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Discord, it didn’t take long to go viral. The videos belong to a growing trend known as “brainrot” content, where artificial intelligence is used to create absurd or outlandish videos starring public figures. These clips—although clearly fake—were so realistic that they sparked major concern and confusion online.
LeBron’s legal team wasted no time. Cease-and-desist letters were sent out not just to Interlink AI, but also to several Instagram pages that helped spread the content. In response, multiple accounts deleted the posts or went completely offline. Interlink AI followed suit by stripping all depictions of real public figures from its platform entirely.
Still, the damage had been done. Even after the takedowns, users on X and other platforms continued circulating new deepfake videos, pushing the boundaries even further and intensifying the backlash. The situation has reignited a heated debate about the ethics of AI-generated content and the urgent need for clear regulations.
LeBron hasn’t made a public statement, but his swift legal move sends a strong message: celebrities have a right to protect their image, even in the digital world. His actions could help set a new precedent for how AI companies treat public figures and how far is too far when it comes to entertainment disguised as content.
