Nicole Pruitt, a retired Army veteran and proud grandmother, quickly intervened when a passenger repeatedly tried to access the cockpit on Delta flight 937 from Atlanta to Tucson last week.

“I felt like my life was in danger,” Pruitt shared with ABC 7.
After noticing the woman making multiple attempts to reach the cockpit, Pruitt sprang into action.
“So, I got her down on the ground. It wasn’t hard to do because I think she wasn’t even expecting it. And at that moment, I told the flight attendants, ‘Could you please get some restraints for her?’ She was very strong, but my determination was even stronger,” she said.
Using instincts honed from her military background, Pruitt managed to subdue the woman safely.
“I knew that I had to take care of myself at the end of the day,” she added.
The flight was forced to return to Atlanta before it resumed its journey to Arizona. The FAA later confirmed the woman was experiencing a medical emergency.
Delta responded with praise, stating, “Delta sincerely appreciates the actions of our crew and customers for deescalating this situation. We apologize to our customers for the delay and thank them for their understanding.”
With 180 passengers on board, the flight eventually reached Tucson without further incident. No injuries were reported, and the woman is not facing charges at this time.
Pruitt’s courage and training helped keep the skies safe when it mattered most.
