This freshman at the University of Kansas is stirring up endorsement deals before he even enters the NBA draft. Andrew Wiggins is a 6’7″ Canadian small forward that has impressed college basketball scouts and programs. There is talk of a possible shoe deal with Adidas if he is drafted next year. According to various sources, the contract could be a 10 year deal worth $140 to $180 million dollars. Miami Heat’s Lebron James inked his 7 year, $93 million dollar deal with Nike his rookie year. There are major differences between James and Wiggins, but Wiggins marketability proves that he may be worth this type of deal.
Wiggins cannot cash in on his marketability now due to NCAA rules but once he finishes a year at Kansas then he is fair game. There are shoe deals expiring after the next NBA season and companies are looking for the next profitable player in the NBA. If Wiggins has a good college basketball season at Kansas and declares for the NBA draft in June then we will see what will come of this shoe deal chatter.
