New Trend Lets You Say Goodbye To Your Loved Ones Without Ever Leaving the Block [Video]

No chapel? No problem. One funeral home is redefining final farewells by pulling up with the casket.

When you think of a funeral, you probably picture pews, flowers, and a somber service inside a quiet chapel. But one funeral home is flipping the script completely. A now-viral Instagram video from N.M. Bartlett Funeral Home in Philadelphia shows a Sprinter van rolling up with a casket inside, offering something called a “mobile viewing service.”
Yes, you read that right.

Instead of heading to a funeral home, families are choosing to say their goodbyes on their own turf—whether that’s in a neighborhood park, a family driveway, or even outside their home. It’s part of a growing shift toward personal, budget-friendly, and less intimidating funeral experiences.

In the video, Nicole Bartlett walks viewers through the process. They carefully load the deceased into a customized vehicle, arrive at a pre-approved location chosen by the family, and set up a full viewing—complete with shade, water, snacks, and seating. Even pets and kids are part of the peaceful, intimate send-off. One clip shows Riley, a family helper, serving drinks to guests dressed comfortably for the heat.

Bartlett explained that many families go this route for several reasons: religious restrictions, funeral anxiety, financial hardship, or just wanting something more personal. The vehicle itself wasn’t bought off a lot—it was custom-built by her husband to serve families in a new, innovative way.

And people are paying attention. The mobile funeral trend is catching on across the country, especially as more folks seek ways to honor their loved ones without the high cost or rigid structure of traditional funerals. Some want to avoid the formalities altogether, while others find comfort in keeping their final moments more familiar and home-centered.

This isn’t just about saving money—it’s about shifting how we grieve. Families can sit beside the casket, share stories, cry, laugh, and find peace without leaving their neighborhood. It’s a more natural, comforting experience for many, especially during times of emotional strain.

Will mobile funerals become the new normal? Only time will tell. But one thing’s clear—this isn’t your grandma’s homegoing.
