New York City is reeling after a mass shooting Monday at 345 Park Avenue that left four people dead—including Wesley LePatner, a high-ranking executive at Blackstone and one of the most powerful women in real estate.

The shooter, Shane Tamura, 27, from Las Vegas, stormed the high-rise armed with two guns and a disturbing message. He left behind a suicide note blaming the NFL for ruining his mind, claiming he suffered from CTE—a brain disease usually linked to professional athletes with repeated head trauma. He only played football in high school and was never diagnosed.

Tamura had driven cross-country to “send a message,” but reports say he took the wrong elevator and ended up opening fire inside an office that wasn’t even affiliated with the NFL. Among those killed was Wesley LePatner, 44, a Yale graduate, wife, mother of two, and CEO of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust (BREIT)—a massive $53 billion property fund.

Wesley had a decorated career that began at Goldman Sachs before rising to the top at Blackstone, where she was praised for her brilliance, leadership, and heart. She sat on boards at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the UJA-Federation of NY, and was active in New York’s philanthropic circles.

The shooting unfolded inside the same building where NFL headquarters is based. But authorities say Tamura never made it there—he died by suicide on the 33rd floor after unleashing the deadly attack.

Her family says they’re heartbroken and shattered but will continue to honor her powerful legacy.
