Faizon Love Headed to Trial Over Allegedly Attacking Hotel Clerk with Credit Card Machine

A San Diego judge has ruled there’s enough evidence to move forward with a felony assault case involving comedian Faizon Love. Prosecutors have charged Love with felony assault with a deadly weapon, plus an enhancement due to the extent of the injuries. The comedian has pleaded not guilty.

The case stems from an August 2023 incident at a San Diego hotel. A front desk clerk testified during a preliminary hearing on July 29th, claiming Love erupted after being told the hotel had no vacancies, despite having a third-party reservation.

“Mr. Love was extremely upset. It was zero to 100 real quick,” the woman told the court. “He was repeatedly asking if we knew who he was.”

According to her testimony, things escalated when Love allegedly threw a credit card machine at her. “I then proceeded to say that was enough,” she stated. “Mr. Love looked directly at me, pulled the credit card machine off, and threw it [in] my direction.”

She testified she suffered a concussion from the blow and has since developed light sensitivity and other health issues. Two of her coworkers also testified, claiming they witnessed the incident firsthand.

Following the testimonies, the judge determined there was probable cause to support the charges. Love is scheduled to face trial in January. If convicted, he could face up to seven years behind bars.

This isn’t the first time Love has faced assault allegations. In 2017, he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor after attacking a valet at the John Glenn Columbus International Airport. That case ended with a $500 fine and a suspended 180-day jail sentence.

The comedian has yet to comment publicly on the current charges.
