The WNBA isn’t playing around after fans threw sex toys onto the court during back-to-back Golden State Valkyries games. The league confirmed the first fan was arrested following Tuesday’s game in Atlanta against the Dream.
“Any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities,” said the WNBA via the San Francisco Chronicle.
Another similar incident happened Friday in Chicago during a matchup against the Sky. Authorities were seen questioning fans at Wintrust Arena. That fan has yet to be identified.
Players are speaking out. “It’s super disrespectful,” said Sky center Elizabeth Williams. “It’s really immature. Whoever is doing it needs to grow up.”
Valkyries forward Cecilia Zandalasini added, “I mean, first of all, it was super dangerous. When we found out what it was, we just started laughing. I’ve never seen anything like that.”
Video of the incidents has gone viral, sparking jokes and criticism alike. But the league is clear—fan safety and respect are non-negotiable.
