It’s official: Hulu is packing its bags and moving into Disney+ for good. By 2026, the Hulu app as we know it will be gone, marking the end of an era in streaming and a bold step in Disney’s evolving digital strategy.
This change didn’t come out of nowhere. Earlier this year, Disney wrapped up its full acquisition of Hulu by shelling out $438.7 million to buy out NBCUniversal’s remaining stake. Once that check cleared, the writing was on the wall: Hulu wasn’t going to stay independent for long.
Disney has already started folding Hulu content into Disney+ through a dedicated “Hulu Hub,” which is now available to U.S. users who subscribe to the Disney Bundle. But now, internal documents and recent reports confirm what many suspected—Disney+ will be the sole home for Hulu content moving forward, and the standalone Hulu app will be phased out by 2026.
Behind the scenes, Disney is also unifying its advertising systems for both platforms under a single roof, streamlining everything from how ads are sold to how content is promoted. That means fewer redundancies and a more tightly controlled content experience across the board.
For viewers, this could mean less app-hopping and a more streamlined binge-watching experience. But for longtime Hulu fans, it also means saying goodbye to the platform that brought us exclusive series, adult dramas, and next-day network shows.
Whether you see it as a major upgrade or just another corporate consolidation, one thing’s clear: the streaming world is changing fast, and Disney+ is putting itself in position to dominate.
