Two small planes have collided in mid‑air near an airport in Colorado. It was a shocking scene when a Cessna 172 and an Extra Flugzeugbau EA300 crashed into each other around 10:40 a.m. on Sunday while both aircraft were attempting to land at Fort Morgan Municipal Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the details: “A Cessna 172 and an Extra Flugzeugbau EA300 collided while both aircraft were attempting to land at Fort Morgan Municipal Airport in Colorado.” The National Transportation Safety Board is also involved, stating: “NTSB investigating the Aug. 31 midair collision involving a Cessna 172 airplane and an Extra EA 300 airplane near Fort Morgan, Colorado.”
Morgan County Sheriff David Martin spoke to local media, confirming that “at least one person sustained burns during the crash.” The sheriff’s office added that one of the planes “caught fire and the other was heavily damaged.” Deputies are on scene and carefully working through the wreckage of the badly damaged planes.
The fiery crash sent smoke and flames soaring into the sky, prompting the closure of the airport. Emergency crews are still assessing the full extent of injuries and damage as the FAA and NTSB continue their investigation.
