Redshirt freshmen Purdue football players BJ Knauf,20, and Jordan Woods,19, were arrested on Class D felony charges of theft Monday in Lafayette, Indiana.  The police were called to Kohl’s in the Tippecanoe Mall for two male shoplifters. Knauf and Woods were caught stealing two tie bars worth $20 dollars from Kohl’s. *PAUSE* A tie bar is like a clip to keep your tie in place. Now maybe they needed these tie bars to wear for game day but this was not the way to get it.

The police decided there was probable cause after the security in Kohl’s recovered the tie bars so they arrested the two players. Now the players may have to pay a fine no more than $10,000 and there is a possibility that they may be punished to serve six months to three years in jail states the Indiana theft laws. Purdue’s head football coach Darrell Hazell stated that he understands that there is an ongoing legal investigation and he will wait to determine the players disciplinary action until it is resolved. According to The Journal Gazette, both players have been released on a $5,000 surety bond.

According to Indiana theft laws, if a person has committed a Class D felony, the court may decide to show leniency by entering judgment of conviction as a Class A misdemeanor,  and sentencing the person accordingly. (Ind. Code Ann. § 35-50-5-2) A person who commits a Class A misdemeanor may receive a  term of imprisonment of not more than one year, as well as a fine of not more than $5,000. (Ind. Code Ann. § 35-50-3-2.) Please think before you act and do something that may cost you more than what you stealing. Just do not do it!
