NBA star Naz Reid is facing an unimaginable loss after his sister, 26-year-old Toraya Reid, was fatally shot outside her apartment complex in Jackson Township, New Jersey.
Police responded to the Paragon Apartments around 11 a.m. on September 6th and found Toraya unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds near the complex’s exit. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities quickly arrested 29-year-old Shaquille Green, who was allegedly seen running from the area. He was found on North New Prospect Road and taken into custody without incident. Prosecutors confirmed Green had been in a romantic relationship with Reid and charged him with murder and weapons violations.
“A subsequent investigation… identified Green – who has been in a dating relationship with Ms. Reid – as the individual responsible for her death,” said the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Naz, who grew up in Asbury Park, once shared in a 2023 interview, “My older sister is super protective, she treats us like she’s our parent.”
Family and friends are flooding social media with messages of support for the Reid family, including their mother, Anashia Reid Smith.
Naz, who recently signed a $125 million contract extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves, is expected to return to training camp later this month while navigating this personal tragedy.
