Saweetie is stepping into a new arena this NFL season, taking on the groundbreaking role of ESPN’s first “Monday Night Football” music curator.

As part of the position, she will select tracks that air during select “Monday Night Football” broadcasts, from live telecasts and promotional spots to the popular “Monday Night Countdown.”

For Saweetie, it is not only a creative milestone but also a personal one, rooted in her lifelong connection to the game.

The announcement was celebrated in New York on Saturday, September 6th, during ESPN’s Red Nail Bar pop-up salon. Guests received themed snacks, posed for photos, and were treated to the signature ESPN Red manicure. The look was designed by Saweetie’s longtime nail artist, Temeka Jackson, giving the event a personal touch that reflected the rapper’s signature style.

Speaking with PEOPLE, Saweetie shared that her connection to football runs deep.

“Football was the first sport I ever played in my life,” she explained. “I come from a really big football family. All my uncles played in college. My dad played in college. My grandfather played in the NFL. So football was probably the first ball I ever took.”

She added that the opportunity with ESPN was one she welcomed with pride, saying, “So I was super excited when ESPN asked me, honored, actually.”

Her role as curator is historic, as no woman has ever held the position before. Saweetie described the trust placed in her as both rewarding and motivating.

“It’s the biggest night of the week, so I’m just happy they trust me and my music tastes,” she said.

She also revealed her plans to introduce fresh talent through the playlists, allowing new voices to be heard on a national stage.

Saweetie hinted that fans should expect surprises.

“I also have a few tricks up my sleeve,” she teased.

When considering what her personal walkout track would be, she named “Do It for the Bay,” her collaboration with P-Lo. For her, the song honors her Bay Area roots and her lasting loyalty to the San Francisco 49ers.

With a background in both football and music, Saweetie is uniquely positioned to bring a new energy to “Monday Night Football.”
