The fallout from Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension is now drawing attention from Capitol Hill. Congressman Robert Garcia, a Democrat from California and ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, announced he’s opening an investigation into what led ABC to pull the plug on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

Garcia says this isn’t just about a canceled show. He claims there’s a broader pattern of political censorship tied to the Trump administration, Sinclair Broadcast Group, and high-level media influence.

“Every American has a duty to stand up for our First Amendment values,” Garcia stated. “We will not be silent as our freedoms are threatened by corrupt schemes and threats. Anyone who is complicit will need to answer to us.”

The controversy started when Kimmel criticized MAGA supporters in a recent monologue. That triggered a backlash from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, who warned the network to take “action” or face consequences. Just hours later, ABC announced Kimmel’s indefinite suspension.

Although Garcia’s position doesn’t allow him to unilaterally subpoena witnesses, he’s working alongside Committee Chair James Comer to get Carr in front of lawmakers. Notably, Nexstar, another major media group involved, has not yet been included in the probe.

The move has reignited debates over press freedom, political pressure, and the fine line between regulation and retaliation.
