Reagan National Airport briefly paused all flights on Tuesday after a reported security threat involving a United Airlines plane caused emergency protocols to go into effect.

Officials confirmed the incident centered on a flight arriving from Houston. The FAA released a statement saying, “The FAA is aware of a reported security issue on an aircraft at Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). Passengers have been removed, and the aircraft is away from the terminal while authorities investigate.”
Eyewitness video from inside the airport showed emergency crews and police on the tarmac as the situation unfolded.
Authorities say the flight touched down safely and no injuries were reported. Out of an abundance of caution, passengers were transported from the aircraft to the terminal by bus.
So far, neither United Airlines nor the FAA has revealed the exact nature of the threat. However, an air traffic control recording captured the moment a controller advised the pilot that the aircraft was being moved due to an “unconfirmed bomb report.”
As of Tuesday afternoon, flight operations have resumed at the airport. Travelers are urged to check with their airlines for any delays or residual disruptions.
This follows a string of bomb threats at New Jersey voting sites, which also rocked communities Tuesday.
