Officials confirmed a heartbreaking tragedy Monday morning in suburban Florida when a small plane carrying supplies to hurricane‑ravaged Jamaica crashed into a neighborhood pond. The Coral Springs Police Department announced that two people “tragically lost their lives” in the accident.

Surveillance footage from a nearby home shows the turboprop plane as it clips the edge of the land and its nose slams into the water in the Windsor Bay community in Coral Springs, a suburb near Fort Lauderdale. Rescue teams arrived shortly after the crash and shifted immediately from rescue to recovery mode.

“There was no actual plane to be seen. They followed the debris trail to the water. We had divers that entered the water and tried to search for any victims, but didn’t find any,” said Mike Moser, Deputy Chief of the Coral Springs‑Parkland Fire Department.

The aircraft, a Beechcraft King Air, which often seats seven to twelve people, took off from the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport around 10:14 a.m., and authorities reported the crash just five minutes later. While no homes were damaged, debris was scattered throughout the retention pond and surrounding area.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash, which occurred amid mounting relief efforts after Hurricane Melissa devastated Jamaica in late October.
