Suge Knight Says Jail Conditions Are Preventing Communication With His Lawyers, Seeks Trial Delay – blogged by @MsJennyb

PageSix reports that Marion “Suge” Knight is seeking to delay his upcoming murder trial because jail restrictions are limiting his ability to speak with his attorney frequently enough to fight the charges.

Last year, Knight was charged for running over two men, killing one, outside a Compton food stand. He has since been kept under tight security.

The Death Row Records co-founder spoke to a judge for over 10 minutes in a court hearing in Los Angeles, revealing he had been prevented from speaking with his lawyer or interviewing others for representation. According to Knight’s attorney, Thaddeus Culpepper, the former rap mogul had been unable to meet with his investigator since late January, however, he will ask to delay an August trial date in the coming weeks.

“This is my life,” Knight pled, in an effort to receive more frequent call time.

Following an order issued under seal, Knight had his privileges to visit or call family members withdrawn earlier this year.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ronald Coen did not delay the trial. Another judge who later heard a motion about Knight’s conditions in jail did not immediately rule about access to attorneys.

Judge William C. Ryan did not indicate how he would rule but said he did not intend to unfairly limit Knight’s calls to his counsel.

Knight faces potential life sentences if convicted because of his priors for armed robbery and assault with a gun.
