A South Carolina community is warning its residents to steer clear of a new method being used to lure children.
According to reports, an unknown person dressed up as a clown has been spotted urging neighborhood children to come into the woods.
The Fleetwood Manor Apartments in Greenville sent out letters to all of its residents notifying them of the many complaints of the clown, as well as advising them to adhere to a 10pm curfew that has been put in place. The letter encourages parents to watch over there children closely and not allow any children to be outside alone.
One resident, Donna Arnold, recalls an overwhelming amount of children notifying her of the clown. “I thought my child was seeing things,” she said. “And then the next day I had about 30 kids come up to me and say, ‘Did you see the clown in the woods?'”
One community member says he’s stepping in to ensure the safety of the children nearby. “We have about two to three hundred children out here,” Bruce Wilson said. “I want to make sure that law enforcement is doing the right thing.”
According to the apartment’s management, the local law enforcement agency has been contacted and will be conducting daily patrols of the area.
