Let’s Make A Deal, I’ll Cook If You Fix Things

I’ll be the first to admit that although I can cook, I don’t like to. I hate being hot and kitchens make me sweat. I also have little patience when I’m hungry and hate waiting for food to be ready. Honestly, the only reason I cook is for my “man” and for my kind gesture to hopefully end in appreciation sex. I know that there are a lot of women like me. Gone are the days where every woman was “Big Mama” and would slave in the kitchen because that’s all she had to do all day. Now we are career women. We work, raise kids and have so much to do in a little time. Sometimes we need a break. So why is it that men don’t realize this and are the first ones to say they won’t date a woman who can’t or doesn’t cook?

Just like long gone are the days where every woman cooks, even more gone are the days when men owned tools and could fix things around the house. Men can tell you how long your weave should be, what lipstick you shouldn’t wear and that they don’t like false eye lashes but couldn’t tell you how to change a flat tire. Isn’t it fair that if you’re going to request that I have a fresh set of pots and pans handy that you at least hit Home Depot and have a tool box available? Face it, you may not like to fix things but that doesn’t stop things from breaking. Who wants to pay someone to change my light bulb?

Sure, it can be argued that no woman should be able to say she “can’t” cook because cooking comes with instructions (i.e. cook books). Honestly, if it weren’t for cookbooks and me repeatedly making dishes over and over until I got it right, I probably wouldn’t be able to cook either. Then again, why should I slave in a kitchen for a man who refuses to get his hands dirty? This entertainment center from Walmart comes with instructions just like my cook book. Let’s make a deal, I’ll cook if you fix some things around this house.

Fellas, I’m not saying you have to be Bob the Builder but if a few things need a little fix here and there, I don’t see a problem with you fixing the issue before it becomes a bigger issue. If you can’t change a tire, replace a cabinet door, change the oil or exchange the parts on my washing machine why don’t you cook and let me do it?

Ladies, I propose that we no longer cook for men that don’t do manly things. He either has to cook or he starves. Don’t reward bad behavior.
