Ballerific Sports: Percy Harvin Calls It Quits, Retires at 27 – blogged by @MsJennyb

After eight seasons, at the age of 27, free agent wide receiver Percy Harvin has decided to retire.

As a 2009 superstar first round draft pick to the Minnesota Vikings, posting career high in catches and receiving yards in 2011, his production has since decreased. Harvin has played for three teams since the start of the 2014 season. Plagued with migraine headaches and injuries that kept him out of several games throughout eight seasons, Harvin planned to continue his career. He was traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the New York Jets during the season and joined Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills last year.

In Buffalo, Harvin’s talent and ability showed in streaks. He caught a 51-yard touchdown in the season opener and had 19 receptions for 218 yards, according to ESPN, before his hip and knew injuries shelved him for the season.

Last March, Harvin signed a three-year deal, which resulted in almost $6 million in guaranteed money. The last two years of the contract automatically voided five days after Super Bowl 50 in order to reduce his 2015 salary-cap.

However, despite Harvin’s continuing hip issues, the team had been hoping to re-sign the former Florida Gator. The Bills hoped to see a healthy Harvin and place him into a rotation with Robert Woods, opposite Sammy Watkins.

Since Harvin has decided to hang up his cleats, the Bills will either need to draft someone or hope that one of their players competing for a roster spot will be able to fill that void, if they are still looking for that type of rotation.
