On Friday, Nykea Aldridge was gunned down on the south side of Chicago after returning from registering her children for school. The 32 year old mother of 4, who is also the cousin of Dwyane Wade, was pushing her child in a stroller and was not the intended target. However, she was hit in the head and arm and succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. The intended target, the man Aldridge was walking with, is still alive.
Two men have been arrested in connection to Aldridge’s death. Brothers Darwin Sorrells Jr., 26, and Derren Sorrells, 22, have each been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder. Darwin Sorrells Jr. was also charged with a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass.
Police say that Darren, who was out on parole, was a member of the Gangster Disciples street gang. His brother Darwin was also on parole for a gun charge.
