Tyler Summitt, the 25-year-old son of Hall of Fame women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt and head coach of the women’s basketball team at Louisiana Tech, has announced his resignation after going where no coach should ever go.
It was recently revealed that Coach Summitt was sleeping with one of his players. If that wasn’t bad enough, he also got her pregnant. Oh, and did I mention he’s married? No, this is not a soap opera, this is apparently real life.
After coaching the team for two seasons, the embarrassed (former) head coach resigned on Thursday.
“It is with great regret that I resign from my position as head coach of the women’s basketball program at Louisiana Tech University,” he said in a statement released by the school. “I am profoundly disappointed in myself for engaging in a relationship that has negatively affected the people I love, respect and care about the most.”
As the head coach of a team, there are some lines that you should never cross and Summitt committed the ultimate foul. His reputation is ruined and chances are slim that he will ever get another position coaching basketball again.
