Josh Brent (24 yrs old) and Jerry Brown (25 yrs old) were involved in a fiery wreck early Saturday morning. Brent was seen dragging an unresponsive Brown from the burning car when police arrived. Brown was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly afterwards. Officers at the scene believed that alcohol was a contributor to the crash so Brent was given a sobriety test and based on the results was later jailed and charged with Intoxicated Manslaughter. Brent was released sunday on $500,000 bond which exceeds his $490,000 salary this season.
This is an awfully sad situation. On one hand Josh Brent didn’t mean to kill his ream mate, but on another he knows better and has had DUI trouble before. We all know not to drink and drive, they teach us this before they teach us our multiplication tables in school. Now your long time friend and team mate is gone and you are dealing with it emotionally, financially and legally. Now a young child will never truly know their father. Was that club night really worth it?
Josh Brent recently released a statement expressing remorse for what had happened.
“I am devastated and filled with grief. Filled with grief for the loss of my close friend and teammate, Jerry Brown. I am also grief-stricken for his family, friends and all who were blessed enough to have known him.
“I will live with this horrific and tragic loss every day for the rest of my life. My prayers are with his family, our teammates and his friends at this time.”
Jerry Brown recently posted the following message to his Facebook page on November 29th about leaving the “fast life” behind, wanting a family and expecting a daughter soon.
