The LAPD has decided to launch an investigation into a death threat made against Jada Paul, the wife of L.A. Clippers’ point guard Chris Paul. On March 14, a Twitter user tweeted at the Clippers star, saying, “@CP3 if I knew where you lived I’d probably kill your wife and frame you for it. I watch Dateline I get away with it.” Given the menacing nature of the tweet, it caught the eye of Clippers’ security, who then alerted the authorities.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time that the Pauls have experienced online harassment. The police are also looking into an Instagram user who has been trolling the couple since at least 2014. In this case, the person behind the account has never threatened physical harm, but he or she continues to leave inappropriate comments under the Pauls’ family photos. No arrests have been made in either case yet.
Having to deal with internet trolls comes with being a public figure in today’s social media age, but there is no excuse for sending death threats to a person’s family members. Whether the person behind the Twitter account is a scorned groupie, a bored teenager, or something more serious, hopefully the police can find the person responsible and put an end to the madness.
