There have been many designers that have recreated styles that were inexpensive and quite fashionable years ago. We have seen Jeremy Scott bring back the patchwork denim jeans, Looney Tunes Characters on shirts and dresses, and now the Chinese Slippers. Back in 2005 maybe earlier, you could purchase the slippers from your local Beauty Supply store for about $3. Lets just say it was a trend at the time for many of us 10 years ago. They became the uniformed foot wear for comfort and style.  Most people had an assortment of colors because they were so inexpensive.
Balenciaga debuted the slippers during their Spring 2016 Paris Fashion Week. The popular brand has reintroduced the sandals, renamed them as embroidered flat mules, and hiked the price to $1,545. Are they serious?Â
The only difference between the slippers are bigger floral embellishments, a cushion sole, and the of course the price. Amazon.com are selling the Chinese slippers that were once worn back in the early 2000’s for about $7-$12.
Fashion seems to always repeat itself.  Currently, we are reliving the 70’s era of fashion with wide-leg pants, off the shoulder blouses, culottes, and floral prints.  Still, it is very surprising when a high-end designer recreates an urban trend and renames it as a new item or trend. Â
The Balenciaga embroidered flat mules are currently being sold at Nordstrom, if interested.
