You’re Friends With A Couple, Is It Your Responsibility To Tell If One Is Cheating?

Let’s say you are friends with a couple. You’ve known one person longer than the other. You introduced the two, were maid of honor at the wedding and became a close friend to the other person in the couple. You consider yourself a true friend but what happens when you find out one of your friends is stepping out on the other person?

As a friend you have two options: To tell or Not to tell. If you keep the secret you are avoiding the drama that you could found yourself. Well, thats unless you don’t totally stay out of it and you just keep the secret from one of your friends. If you choose sides you’re increasing the likelihood of finding yourself in the middle. Someone is bound to hate you and there’s not an easy way out of this situation. If you’re going to stay out of the situation you have to stay out of it all or nothing. Don’t choose sides because the moment you do you’re pretty much telling one of your friends that their feelings aren’t as important to you as the other. This is a tough situation to be in because its terribly difficult to justify who your loyalty should lie with. Should it be the person you’ve known the longest or the person you’ve grown closer to over the years?

Then you have the option to tell. If you decide to tell your friend that their partner is cheating you are helping your friend by making them aware of their partner’s horrible acts. On the other hand, you’re opening a can of worms and once again putting yourself in the middle of someone else’s drama. This is where your loyalty is heavily tested. If you tell one friend, you run the risk of losing the other friend. Is it worth it? On the flip side, the friend you told would appreciate you more for caring enough about them to let them know.

Things always get messy when you’re dealing with two friends, two people you love, two people who love eachother. You sometimes feel responsible for them and their happiness and you want to see them do well. Unfortunately, being that shoulder they lean on can become harder work than its worth. What would you do? Who does your loyalty lie with?
