Kerry Washington knows one thing for certain, she won’t be one of those celebrities that gets messy on social media. While at SXSW in Austin, TX, Washington discussed social media and why she has never and will never address her divorce rumors.
Kerry Washington secretly married NFL cornerback, Nnamdi Asomugha, in 2013. Soon after, the two gave birth to their first daughter and Nnamdi retired from the NFL after being waived by the 49’ers. It wasn’t long before rumors started to fly that Nnamdi was jealous of Kerry’s Scandal success and Kerry was fed up with Nnamdi being a lazy has been. Before you know it, the internet was set ablaze with rumors that Kerry and Nnamdi were headed for splitsville.
“If I don’t talk about my personal life, it means I don’t talk about my personal life,” she said. “That means not only did I not tell you when I was getting married, it also means if somebody has rumors about what’s going on in my marriage, I don’t refute them, because I don’t talk about my personal life.”
Kerry also touched on motherhood and why she won’t be posting her daughter, Isabella Amarachi, on social media any time soon.
“I have these itchy fingers where I want to post a photo of my daughter, so instead I send it to my shrink or my mother,” she revealed. “I’m like, ‘Look at this picture! Look how cute!’ Get it out of my phone into the world, but not on social.”
“I want her to be able to make those decisions in her time,” she explained. “She already has a lot to navigate in life as the daughter of an actor and a former football player. She should be able to enter this world when it feels right for her, and not [have me] make that decision for her. Who knows what the next generation of Snapchat will be when she’s allowed to have a phone.”
