22 Year Old Who Tried To Take Trump Down Is An Avid Protester For Black Rights

Not all heroes wear capes, some of them wear J. Cole Dreamville t-shirts. Meet 22 year old Thomas Dimassimo who has now become famous for nearly tackling Donald Trump at a rally in Ohio on Saturday. 

Dimassimo documented the hours leading up to Trump rally on his Twitter page, saying that his intentions were only to grab the mic and call out the republican candidate for being a racist. 

On Friday Dimassimo, an acting major at Wright State University, tweeted, “I’ve had about all I can take from the violent trump ralliers.  Saturday I’m  going to check my people and spit on their false king.”

“Currently in line for the rally. Currently never been more scared in my life,” he wrote Saturday on Twitter at 3.23am. “If I can get good thoughts and prayers from my TL it would be much appreciated.” 

On Saturday, it was on, Thomas Dimassimo hopped a waist high barricade to snatch the mic from Trump. By now we’ve all seen the video footage of how it went down. Dimassimo was later arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Soon after being released from jail he tweeted, “@realDonaldTrump I spit in my hand before I shook yours at the beginning of the rally.”

That’s not the only time Dimassimo has been involved with the cause, however. In April 2015, as a junior at Wright State University, Dimassimo helped lead an anti-racism protest at his school. Last summer, Dimassimo participated in a counter protest in Stone Mountain, GA against the Confederate flag. Video and photos show him stomping and ripping up a confederate flag in front of angry supporters. 

In the past Dimassimo has acknowledged that the black protesters are the ones who truly deserve the acknowledgement. After his rally last year he wrote, “To all my white friends observing my actions, and responding with love and support I thank you. But I feel you may be missing something essential. The POC who stood with me are the true heroes. As a white man I can choose to insert myself into danger when I feel the need to. That’s privilege. The black women who stood with me are face that same danger when they drive down the street. ‪#‎Sandrabland‬ I’m here to use my privilege to increase visibility for these type of issues. That doesn’t make me a hero. It makes me a decent human being. Thank you.” 

So to those protesters in Chicago, Kansas City and Dayton, keep fighting the good fight!
