Lying About Your Sexual Partners, Is It Cool?

I recently read an article on the net about Beyonce claiming that she’s only had one boyfriend other than Jay Z and that Jay Z was her first. Now, by first I was hoping she meant her first marriage. Unfortunately, she meant her first sexual partner. Now I’m by no means the hall monitor of Bey’s womb so I don’t know who has or has not been in and out of there, but I did give her a swift side-eye.

I started to realize that when it comes to sex, you can never be too sure about a person’s body count. Men tend to over-exaggerate while women tend to give or take a few. But what’s the purpose? I’m not saying that you have to tell everyone who has been in and out of your bedroom, but if you’re going to speak on it why don’t you speak the truth? For some reason (if this article about Beyonce is real) Bey felt a need to speak on her sex life. Not saying it would be necessary for her to say “Yeah, I slept with the entire football team at 13” but why say “Jay Z took my virginity” if that could possibly not be true. Once again, I’m not saying that this is impossible, but let’s be honest, it’s not as likely as Beyonce would like to have us think.

So why do we as women feel the need to lie about sexual partners? When posed with the question why do so many of us choose to cut our number in half? I’m a firm believer in standing by your actions, whether good or bad. Unfortunately society is so backwards and full of double standards that it’s somehow okay for men to have multiple sexual partners, but the minute a woman has slept with over one person in her life she’s deemed a slut. So according to society, men can sleep with multiple women and be praised and when a women sleeps with any man other than the one she’s destined to marry, she’s damaged goods. Interesting.

So if a guy asks you how many guys you’ve slept with, what do you do? Do you keep it real and lay your ho shit on the table or do you keep it cute and keep the numbers low? Personally, I keep it real. You want to know my number, I’ll give it to you. The truth will either disgust or relieve you. Don’t wanna know? Don’t ask!
