The writing has been on the wall for quite some time, but the Browns made it official on Friday when they cut quarterback Johnny Manziel.
Manziel, who has been coined the NFL’s bad boy, has been in and out of trouble since getting drafted by the Browns in 2014. Between his substance abuse, constant partying, and legal issues, he has been more of a headache than anything for the organization over the past couple of years. Most recently, Manziel was under investigation for allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend.
More importantly, for the Browns at least, Manziel hasn’t been producing on the field either. He started six games this past season, only winning two of them. In 2014, he played five games and started two of them. His performance was overall disappointing as a rookie as he completed 18 of 35 pass attempts, scored 1 touchdown along with 2 interceptions and a fumble throughout those five games.
Knowing the issues that Manziel consistently battles off the field, combined with his lackluster performance on the field, it’ll be interesting to see if another team will pick him up.
