Music is such a universal language, however only few truly understand it. Reason being? There is far too much manufactured talent which lacks consistency. However, true talent does exist, though it comes few & far between. An artist staying true to the art is none other than Mr. Raheem Devaughn. His voice paints beautiful pictures that speak to the depths of your soul.
He’s truly an artist before his time quite characteristic of the late Marvin Gaye. With three solid releases in The Love Experience, Love Behind the Melody & his latest, The Love & War Masterpeace, Raheem is well on his way to iconic status.
To know him is to love him. A starving artist in his own right, though he appears full, his appetite for greatness yearns for more. As the head of 368 Music Group, he has a star player in artist Phil Ade’. I urge you to pay attention, what they’re cooking up in the future, you’ll definitely want to partake in.
Check out our exclusive below:
BA: 1. Before going into the studio to record The Love & War Masterpeace was there a specific vision you sought out?
RD: I wanted to make an iconic album that spoke to people around the world. I wanted to discuss current events and things affecting the global community at large. Since I covered so many topics, the question is where do I go from here.
BA: With now three successful studio albums, do you ever feel any extreme pressure to succeed at putting out other albums given the standard of those?
RD: Pressure is good. It makes you work harder to push yourself beyond your comfort zones. So while I may not compare my previous releases (3 Studio albums in 5 years, and 8 mixtapes in 7 years), I realize that I may feel a lil more pressure next time around.
BA: It’s been said this latest album breathes life into an industry that is very much comatose, what would be your reasoning behind that?
RD: I believe that I am one of the most slept on artists. Many may not know that I have been signed since 2002. Therefore, I am hoping that this album will allow me the opportunity to gain new fans as my music speaks to a variety of listeners.
BA: A reoccurring element in each of your albums is that of LOVE, how important is it that you push the word that so many speak of yet fail to act on?
RD: People are motivated by different things. Some promote money. Some promote power. I promote love. Love is the one thing that everyone needs and truly desires.
BA: As self-explanatory as Nobody Wins a War is, who do you feel should listen & hear those lyrics the most?
RD: Everyone needs to listen to “Nobody Wins The War”. I have been researching wars as it pertains to the centuries. The youth needs to listen to the song as they are the future. Besides fighting wars overseas, they are having to deal with issues affecting their communities with the steady rise in violence, unemployment, etc.
BA: If you had the opportunity to collab with any artist past, present, dead or alive, who would it be & why?
RD: I would love to have collaborated with the following: Bob Marley, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Isaac Hayes, Sade, D’Angelo, Jay-Z, The Roots, Nas, Erykah Badu, Maxwell, James Blount, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Donnie Hathaway, every from the Motown Sound Era, Stevie Wonder, and The Stax Records artist roster.
BA: You’re known for your sensual & seductive tracks will there be a possibility of recording an album specific to the LOVE EXPERIENCE?
RD: Yes, I embrace the challenge.
BA: Do you listen to your music while getting it on with that special someone? Which one of your songs is ultimate baby making music?
RD: I definitely test out my records in the bedroom. There’s are a few women out there whose men have probably played them all of my tracks over my career. “Desire”, “Fragile”, and “Bedroom” are no brainers for great mood setting songs.
BA: Are you single? Please describe your ideal soulmate.
RD: Yes, I am single. My soulmate has to be ambitious, confident, loyal, trustworthy, honest, patient, humble, understanding, and a lady in the street and a freak in the bed.
BA:What’s next for Raheem Devaughn & the 368 movement? Phil Ade’?
RD: 368 Music Group is working diligently on Phil Ade’s new project. We are working with some new acts. We are working hard to build a quality brand, and secure distribution.
