Terrell Owens was spotted at Ticketstock 2016 at the Irving Convention Center last weekend, where of course he was asked about his time as a Dallas Cowboy.
“There were some things that kind of swirled around right at the end of the 2009 season,” the former receiver answered. “I think everybody has heard that there was some rumbling going around, some whispers about me saying that Tony and Witten were drawing up plays, this and that. I understood where I was in my career and I wasn’t trying to be divisive in the locker room or anything like that.”
Owens then goes on to talk about how things began to spiral downward after info from an internal team meeting got leaked. He also hints that Cowboys head coach, Jason Garrett, was likely the source of the leak. “If there was anything internal going on, we talked about it, even as a receiver group, whatever is said in that room, stays in that room. There were some things that were leaked out that were supposed to be in house from meetings that myself, Roy Williams and Patrick Crayton had with Jason Garrett. It just so happened, of the four of us — and maybe five of us with coach [Ray] Sherman — knowing about that meeting, things got leaked. That’s a shame because, of those four guys, outside of Garrett, I’ll put my life on it that none of them said anything.”
Owens goes on to say, “If there was something that I saw in practice that was happening in games that was causing us to have hardships in games, and even lose games, then I had an issue with it. So if I address something with my teammates and my coaches and I thought it was supposed to be internal, that’s why I said it. I never said it for it to get outside of those walls. If I addressed something about where the ball was going, it wasn’t necessarily for me to just get the ball [more]. I understood my role. Sometimes balls were being thrown into double-coverage when guys were open, and that’s what I wanted to address and bring to the attention of the staff. Some of those things got out, and that’s unfortunate. That was me trying to be a leader. That was me trying to be a team player for the betterment of the team because I was brought here to win football games and try to get to the Super Bowl.”
Sports fans, Do you believe that Terrell Owens was set up to be pushed out of Dallas or was it all a huge misunderstanding?
