As we previously reported, The Grammy’s struggled to honor black musicians who passed away over the last year. Though they were able to quickly throw together something for Earth, Wind & Fire’s Maurice White, Natalie Cole’s family has found themselves disappointed with the lack of acknowledgment from the awards show.
Cole, who died December 31, did not receive a liver performance in her honor. Instead, she was packaged in the ‘In Memoriam’ video. ‘We were hoping that there will be some sort of actual tribute to her fitting of her artistry and stature. She had 21 Grammy nominations and nine wins,’ Timolin Cole, Natalie’s sister, told Page Six prior to the show. ‘She was such a force in the music industry and she transcended genres…I think she should be recognized for the impact she has had.’
Fans on social media also joined in on the sentiment that Natalie Cole deserved more. Do you think Natalie Cole should have gotten a performance?
