Former UFC bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey, recently broke her silence about how her shocking loss to Holly Holm caused her to contemplate suicide.
Rousey was literally knocked from one of the most publicized platforms of success when she was knocked out in her first UFC loss back in November of 2015. Now the fighter is detailing just how much that defeat impacted her.
“I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself and that exact second I’m like ‘I’m nothing, what do I do anymore and no one gives a s–t about me anymore without this.’”Rousey said to Ellen Degeneres.
She went on to explain how her boyfriend actually helped her to realize that she needed to be alive. “To be honest I looked up and I saw my man Travis was standing up there and I looked up at him and I was like, I need to have his babies. I need to stay alive.”
Rousey also discussed the fight from her point of view, detailing the physical beating. “In that first hit I cut open my whole mouth and I knocked my teeth loose,” she explained. “I knew she was out there, but like I really don’t remember most of it. So I was trying my best to kind of hide the fact that I wasn’t even there anymore.”
The fighter did offer insight on what she believes aided in her loss. think the one thing that was different was that it was my third title fight in nine months, and I don’t think anyone has ever attempted that before,” she stated.
While a rematch between Rousey and Holm slated for this summer has been dismissed by UFC President Dana White, Rousey has announced that she plans on making her return this year.
