While some would say it falls under the category of ‘niche programming,’ much like Telemundo, WeTV, LOGO and more, Stacey Dash considers BET a network that promotes segregation and because of that she believes that if we want to be equal, we must get rid of the network. She’s since then come under fire from both black and white celebrities alike. Even BET took shots at the “Clueless” actress, reminding her of the time she appeared on an episode of “The Game.”
Now Dash has fired back at the network on her personal blog.
“They reminded me — and the rest of America — that I appeared on a show called ‘The Game,’ which appeared on BET,” Dash wrote. “Well, here’s the thing. Thank you for reminding me, since most people have never heard of that show. Why? It’s on BET.”
She continued the shade, “Quick. Name the top shows on BET. Drawing a blank? I think I’ve made my point. I’m thankful for all of the acting jobs I’ve had. But I look forward to the day when people don’t self-segregate based on skin color, while loudly complaining about a segregated society. BET lies to American black people by telling them that the rest of America is racist, so stick close to your own kind. Anything that promotes segregation is bad! And they’re absolutely mortified that someone like me — an independent-thinking black woman — dares call their bluff.”
Stacey Dash was recently called out by comedian Gary Owen, who’s white and had his career launched by BET. “I hosted Comic View, had 3-hour specials on there, I presented at the BET Awards, I was on Real Husbands of Hollywood. To be honest, BET has done more for my career than any other network. Stacey, please stop talking. I liked you better on Clueless.”
I find it disheartening that Stacey Dash feels this way, considering much of her career is off the support of black people. It was young black girls that supported her role as Dionne, a black Valley girl in a predominately white school. It was Kanye West who cast her in one of his first hip hop music videos, that played all over BET. And to say no one knows of “The Game” because it was on BET? Wasn’t “The Game” originally created and directed by Kelsey Grammer, a white man? Before it ever came to BET.
Bye Stacey! Until you do right by black people, you will forever age like milk.
