Rapper Shawty Lo Confirmed Dead After Fiery Hit-And-Run in Atlanta

Early Wednesday morning the rap world was shaken by news of D4L rapper Shawty Lo’s unexpected passing. Shawty Lo, real name Carlos Walker, had just left a celebration at Blue Flame Lounge in Atlanta when he was involved in a deadly hit-and-run accident.

According to reports, Walker was traveling southbound on I-285 in south #FultonCounty when his white Audi was struck by another car and sent over the guardrail. According to authorities, the crash occurred around 2:20 a.m. After flipping over the railing, the car hit two trees and burst into flames. Walker was ejected from the vehicle and died on the scene. Two other passengers were injured and transported to a local hospital.

Due to the crash, the I-285 ramp to Cascade Road was temporarily blocked, however, it has since been cleared. Sources say officials are still searching for the other driver.

The news was confirmed by Johnnie Cabbell, Shawty Lo’s manager of over 10 years. “I am so so so devastated that words can not describe how I feel right now. Shawty Lo was not just my artist he was my Brother He was My Friend,” Cabbell wrote in a heartwarming Instagram post dedicated to his dear friend.

Shawty Lo is a founding member of “D4L” which spawned hit records such as “Betcha Can’t Do It Like Me” and “Laffy Taffy,” the latter which was entered into the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records as the most downloaded song in the history of music.  Shawty Lo went on to pursue a solo career which equally matched his success in a group setting. Shawty Lo dropped club hits such as “Dey Know”, “Dun Dun” and “Foolish.” His 2007 album, Units in the City, peaked at #14 on the Billboard 200 and at #2 on the Top Rap Albums chart.

Shawty Lo is survived by his 11 children. Our condolences to his friends and family.
